National Safe Haven Law                                                       Since the first law was adopted in Texas in 1999, each state across the U.S. has enacted a Safe Haven law. While each state's law is different, they all ensure the safety of newborn infants and the protection of parents who decide to properly relinquish their child. Safe Haven Laws: The Unintended Consequences
A 2003 report by the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute raises concerns regarding Safe Haven laws. The report states that, in theory, the Safe Haven law was a good idea: a designated safe place to leave your baby. However, even with these safe options, newborns are still abandoned in unsafe places such as parking lots, bathrooms, and dumpsters. The report also suggests that the Safe Haven laws may have spurred some unintended consequences. Read this report at:

"A Safe Haven for Newborns"

Though there is a lot of negative press about the Safe Haven Law, there are groups such as the “A Safe Haven for Newborns” in Florida, which is dedicated to reaching women and encouraging them to make the right choice for themselves and babies. In 2010, the group celebrated their 150th ‘saved’ baby. To find out more about what they are doing, check out:
